Een bestuurder verloor de controle over zijn SUV op een parkeerplaats bij een winkelcentrum in de provincie Pathum Thani.
De crash vond maandagavond laat plaats, maar de politie gaf er geen verklaring over totdat er een video over werd geüpload op sociale media.
De bestuurder van de Toyota Fortuner raakte lichtgewond, maar niemand anders raakte gewond, zei luitenant-kolonel Prasit Somboonjit, plaatsvervangend hoofd van het politiebureau van Kukot.
Het ongeluk gebeurde maandag rond 23.00 uur, zei Prasit. Hij weigerde de naam van de bestuurder vrij te geven,
maar zei wel dat de man 45 jaar oud was. Hij weigerde ook het winkelcentrum te noemen waar het incident plaatsvond.
Hij bevestigde de crash nadat een TikTok-gebruiker een clip plaatste waarin het wrak van het voertuig in het winkelcentrum te zien was.
De clip toonde een zwarte Fortuner met een zwaar beschadigde achterkant bovenop tafels in een Amazon-coffeeshop.
Prasit zei dat de chauffeur voor de crash een vriend in het winkelcentrum had bezocht. De bestuurder zei dat het stuursysteem van de SUV niet goed functioneerde toen hij de parkeerplaats verliet en vervolgens de controle over het voertuig verloor en niet meer kon remmen, zei Prasit.
De SUV botste door de glazen wand die de parkeerplaats scheidde van het winkelcentrum, raakte een reling en tuimelde vervolgens door een open ruimte van de tweede verdieping naar de begane grond.
De politie zei dat ze twijfels hadden over de verklaringen van de bestuurder en vroegen om een bloedtest om te bepalen of hij dronk in het ziekenhuis waar ze hem naartoe brachten voor behandeling.
Ze wachten nog steeds op de uitslag van de test.
Het winkelcentrum moet nog een klacht indienen bij het politiebureau waarin staat hoeveel schade er is aangericht, zei Prasit.
De SUV werd in afwachting van een hoorzitting in beslag genomen als bewijs, voegde hij eraan toe.

The driver of the Toyota Fortuner was slightly injured, but no one else was injured, said Lieutenant Colonel Prasit Somboonjit, deputy chief of Kukot police station.

but did say the man was 45 years old. He also declined to name the mall where the incident took place.
He confirmed the crash after a TikTok user posted a clip showing the wreckage of the vehicle in the mall.
The clip showed a black Fortuner with a badly damaged rear atop tables at an Amazon coffee shop.
Prasit said the driver visited a friend at the mall before the crash. The driver said the SUV’s steering system malfunctioned as he exited the parking space and subsequently lost control of the vehicle and was unable to brake, Prasit said.
The SUV crashed through the glass wall separating the parking lot from the mall, hit a railing and then tumbled through an open space from the second floor to the ground floor.
Police said they had doubts about the driver’s statements and asked for a blood test to determine if he was drinking at the hospital where they took him for treatment.
They are still waiting for the results of the test.
The mall has yet to file a complaint with the police station stating how much damage has been done, Prasit said.
The SUV was seized as evidence pending a hearing, he added.
